We are moving right along and getting into a great routine in room 101! The students had a great time at the apple orchard and we all enjoyed making (and eating!) applesauce.
Each week I will be sending home a homework sheet. Please check over it nightly to make sure your child is completing their assignments. On the back of the homework sheet I have the spelling list and the weekly skills for reading.
Math homework usually comes home nightly and a spelling packet comes home weekly. Spelling pages should take only a few minutes to complete and is a good way for the students to practice their words for their weekly test. I will also be sending home their readers once a week to have them practice their stories at home.
In math we will be having a chapter 1 assessment. This is only 10 questions and is on adding. After that we will be moving into subtraction.
In Religion we are learning about the story of Creation. We have been learning about the Bible, the Old and New Testaments, and the book of Genesis. We have been learning the Glory Be as well. Religion is probably my favorite thing to teach the 1st graders. They are always so inquisitive and it’s an amazing thing.
Our Halloween party will be on Wednesday, October 31st. More information will be coming home as we get closer.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I am always available.
Spelling words for the week of October 8th
*Students also have to write a sentence for their weekly spelling test. At this point I am looking for spacing, a capital letter for the first word and correct punctuation. As the year progresses I will also be counting spelling.
