Fifth: Anne Marie Duffy

                                     Welcome to Mrs. Duffy’s 5th grade!

Parents, please note I update my page each week with what is going on in each class as well as upcoming tests, quizzes and events!

Week of March 16th, 2020

*St. Joseph Day Prayer Service at 8:50am at in the gym, Thursday, 3/19. Please join us if you can. 

* Scholastic Book Orders are due Tuesday, 3/17. 

* NYS ELA Assessments are coming up soon! Dates are 3/25 and 3/26. Make sure your child is well rested, has plenty of #2 pencils and a free reading book. If you choose to exempt them, you must send in a note to Mrs. Keba ASAP. 

* March is Reading Month. Journals are going home this week and your child should be reading for 20 minutes a day at 100 minutes a week. Sign and turn in the papers and your child will be able to participate in Reading Rewards Week the week of 4/13. 

Religion: We are going to be working on St. Patrick and St. Joseph this week so no weekly notes or quiz. Next week we will be working on Holy Week and Easter. A project came home on the Sacraments. It will be due 3/30. 

ELA:  We are going to be working on poetry review and taking the 2019 ELA test as practice to prepare for next week’s NYS ELA test. 

Social Studies: We are about finished with Climate Regions in Latin America and will be talking about El Nino and La Nina. A study guide was sent home. There will be a Unit #4 test this Thursday, 3/19. 

Math: We are finishing Chapter 11: Adding and Subtracting Fractions with Unlike Denominators.  This week we will be working on Subtraction with regrouping. There will be a Chapter 11 Test on Wednesday, 3/18. Please review with your child and have them practice IXL for about 15 minutes a night to reinforce the skills we are learning in class.

Science 5: We are working on internet safety as our health unit for this quarter. 

Science 4: We continue with Ch. 8: The Solar System and will be learning about the planets and how we explore the Earth (rovers, satellites). Students have also been working on germs and healthy habits like hand washing with Mrs. Ellsworth as part of their health unit.

(4) 1 subject spiral notebooks in different colored covers:

1 each for ELA (blue), Science (green), Religion (purple), Social Studies (red)

1 marbled composition notebook (ELA Journal)

2 folders (1 labeled take home, the other labeled work in progress)

1-2 highlighters (any colors)

1 crayon box (nothing too large as it won’t fit in lockers or desks)

1 box of crayons

1 pkg of colored pencils

1 pencil sharpener (for colored pencils)


many #2 pencils

                              1 package of blue or black erasable pens

1 eraser

Looseleaf paper

1 paperback English dictionary (preferably Webster’s and make sure the print size is readable)

ruler (must have both inches and centimeters)

2-3 glue sticks

3 boxes of Kleenex

1 package of baby wipes

3 extra large book covers (ELA, Social Studies, Science)

1 pair of headphones (used for I-ready assessments)


** Because students use small lockers, no rolling backpacks or large  

     trapper keepers/binders please!

** Be sure students have sneakers for gym days!
