Fifth: Anne Marie Duffy

                                         Welcome to Mrs. Duffy’s 5th grade! 

Parents, please note I update my page each week with what is going on in each class as well as upcoming tests, quizzes and events!

Week of January 27th, 2020

* Welcome to Catholic Schools Week!! 

* Scholastic Book Fair is open all week! 

Monday: 9am Welcome from Mayor Quill and grades 3-5 are working on A Toast to Catholic School Writing pieces

Wednesday: 10:30 – 11:30am 5th grade Special Persons Day

Thursday: 1-2pm will be working on Thank yous to staff members

Friday: 9am Closing Mass for CSW. Please join us if you can! And at 2pm we have our Box Snack 


Religion: We will finish up Chapter 14: Jesus Heals Us in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We are reviewing the steps to making a confession and the power of Jesus’ healing in this sacrament.  The Chapter 14 quiz will be  Wednesday, 1/29! 

ELA:  We are continuing our new novel this week, called Number The Stars, by Lois Lowry. We will are learning about World War II and the Holocaust, learning different countries on the map and of course doing some character analysis and vocabulary. 

Social Studies: We continue with Unit #3: United States and Canada Today with a focus on Less. 4 on Environmental Issues that impact the US and Canada. Students should be working on their project on Canada.  It is due on January 28th! Unit #3 Test will be the week of February 3rd. More to come soon. 

Math: We are continuing Chapter 9: Multiplication and Division of Decimals. We will be finishing up multiplying decimals this week. There will be a quiz on Thursday, 1/30. On Friday, we will begin dividing decimals. This is going to be a challenging chapter so please help your child at home. Please review with your child and have them practice IXL for about 15 minutes a night to reinforce the skills we are learning in class.

Science 5: We continue Chapter 7: Weather Patterns, learning about different types of clouds and precipitation. 

Science 4: We begin Chapter 7 on Weather and Climate. This week we will be learning about the layers of the atmosphere and different weather tools.

(4) 1 subject spiral notebooks in different colored covers:

1 each for ELA (blue), Science (green), Religion (purple), Social Studies (red)

1 marbled composition notebook (ELA Journal)

2 folders (1 labeled take home, the other labeled work in progress)

1-2 highlighters (any colors)

1 crayon box (nothing too large as it won’t fit in lockers or desks)

1 box of crayons

1 pkg of colored pencils

1 pencil sharpener (for colored pencils)


many #2 pencils

                              1 package of blue or black erasable pens

1 eraser

Looseleaf paper

1 paperback English dictionary (preferably Webster’s and make sure the print size is readable)

ruler (must have both inches and centimeters)

2-3 glue sticks

3 boxes of Kleenex

1 package of baby wipes

3 extra large book covers (ELA, Social Studies, Science)

1 pair of headphones (used for I-ready assessments)


** Because students use small lockers, no rolling backpacks or large  

     trapper keepers/binders please!

** Be sure students have sneakers for gym days!
